Our Approach
What makes Waters & Kraus different?
Competent and compassionate. Focused and fearless. This defines our approach to litigation and underscores the firm's success. What makes Waters & Kraus truly different is this, we defy conventional legal wisdom in two ways. First, we focus more resources on fewer cases. Second, we fully prepare every case as if it will go to trial.
Why prepare every case for trial?
Because trials are expensive, protracted and complicated affairs that involve great risk. Success favors the side that leaves absolutely nothing to chance. So while we are selective in the cases we take, we are also exceedingly thorough in preparing your case to go to a jury.
Who will handle my case?
We start by sending your case straight to the top to the Waters & Kraus partner who will oversee your case from discovery through trial. Each of our partners is an accomplished trial lawyer with extensive courtroom, appellate and/or project management experience. Most have won record-setting verdicts, and many have litigated precedent-setting cases in areas such as toxic tort, product liability, or asbestos litigation. All are committed to seeing your case through until justice is served.
The partner in charge of your case heads up a team of in-house researchers, associate attorneys, paralegals and allied professionals. Together, we work toward a single goal, to build the strongest case possible. Our thoroughness, coupled with our litigation expertise, makes us a formidable force for justice in the courtroom. It also enhances our position at the negotiation table. This allows us to achieve our primary objective, to maximize the client's recovery from each and every defendant.
Our Resources
Waters & Kraus' Medical Resources Department is second-to-none.
Our results are enhanced by our resources which begin with a very able and agile team of experienced partners, attorneys, and attorneys who serve as of counsel. This allows us to be in multiple jurisdictions around the country on any given day.
Waters & Kraus' Medical Resources Department is also second-to-none, rivaling the capabilities and knowledge base of some of the largest law firms in the country. Under the direction of attorney Carrie Waters, a D.V.M. who holds a Ph.D. in physiology, this department has developed one of the most comprehensive, cutting-edge resources in the legal profession today.
Among our tools are a variety of databases of scientific and medicolegal knowledge comprising more than 10,000 medical and scientific articles. These databases are updated and culled daily for information relevant to our cases, giving our litigation teams immediate access to late-breaking scientific data, medical literature and medicolegal news. It also ensures that our case files and strategy are thoroughly researched and adequately supported.
Waters & Kraus' Litigation Support team is on the cutting-edge of the legal field.
Our Litigation Support Department is equally well versed and equipped in researching and preparing cases for trial. This team of research and legal professionals uses cutting-edge, multimedia discovery to monitor industry and legal news, review legal motions and notices, and gather intelligence.
Like the Medical Resources staff, our Litigation Support team members are smart and savvy. They focus their full efforts on evaluating huge amounts of information and digging for smoking gun documentation. Through these efforts, we build comprehensive exhibit lists that set the foundation for extremely strong cases for plaintiffs seeking asbestos and SJS relief. The Litigation Support team currently manages more than 70,000 liability documents. This team also keeps our attorneys up to date on the issues that affect our practice, the products that have injured our clients, and the defendants that we'll face in court.
Together with the Medical Resources team, our Litigation Support team affords us the advantage of unrivaled knowledge and expertise in the courtroom which gives you the advantage you'll need to make a stand in court and see justice prevail.
